Tamil Nadu Industries Minister TRB Rajaa has expressed strong disappointment over the Defence Ministry’s decision to deny clearance for the proposed Hosur airport, calling for a reconsideration in the interest of a rapidly expanding industrial region.

He stressed that the State government had made sustained efforts to address security concerns raised by defence authorities.

“The Government of Tamil Nadu has consistently engaged with all stakeholders and submitted detailed technical representations showing that the proposed Hosur airport will not impede HAL or IAF operations in any substantial way,” Rajaa said.

He added that these submissions demonstrated how “airspace availability, ATC zoning, and operational safeguards can co-exist with national security requirements”.

Highlighting precedents across the country, the minister noted that several civil airports function efficiently within controlled or restricted airspace through coordinated civil–defence mechanisms.

“Flexible use of airspace and coordinated civil–defence protocols have worked elsewhere and can surely work here as well if Delhi wants to make it work,” he said.

Rajaa underlined Hosur’s emergence as one of Tamil Nadu’s fastest-growing industrial hubs, hosting advanced manufacturing, electronics, electric vehicle ecosystems, aerospace supply chains and a large MSME base.

“The hardworking people of the rapidly growing Hosur, Krishnagiri, and Dharmapuri areas deserve better connectivity that matches the scale of the growth, opportunity, and contribution that the region is making to the region’s economy,” he said in a statement issued on social media.

Voicing hope that the matter would receive fresh attention at the highest level, the minister said the Prime Minister’s Office and the Union government should recognise the strategic and economic value of the proposed airport.

He also appealed to residents of South Bengaluru, stating that the airport would significantly reduce commuting time for many.

Expressing confidence in dialogue and technical engagement, the minister said Tamil Nadu would continue to pursue a solution through cooperation and clarity.
